When next you are looking for some fundraising ideas for schools, why not think of making use of scratchcards to raise funds with? It has been proven to be one of the most successful and easiest methods of raising funds for your school, church or any other cause that you need to raise funds for.
Scratch cards are so successful as they are cheap to purchase but can mean some nice prizes for all people using them. Here is how they work:
Each scratch card consists of seven rows of silver dots as it looks on a lottery ticket. Each person that would like to play will buy the scratch card upon which those funds will be kept and used toward the needed cause. Its a win-win situation as people prefer to get something for their donation rather than just give out money. Under every dot is the potential to win a prize, but as they have been pre-determined by you, the challenge will be for the buyer of the scratch card to find where the prize is.
To get the prize, you as a school representative can go around to each business in your town, explain to them what the aim of the fundraiser is and ask them if the would like to donate a prize. You can make it more interesting for them by giving them a free scratch card if they donate an item. The items that are donated could range from a hamper for meat at the local butcher, a spa treatment, a shopping voucher and if you play your cards right, you could even get huge donations like a brand new car. This will of course depend on your sales tactics, how you represent the school and your presentation regarding the need for the funds.
Make sure you advertise your fundraising day all around town by way of flyers, advertisements in the local newspaper as well as the local radio shows. It is important to try to get the most amount of people attending the day as possible, as this means more scratch cards will be sold.
With the technology of today’s computer programs and printers it is very possible for you to design and print your own scratch cards. Plan what prizes you will be giving and how often you would place a prize amongst the scratch cards. This will of course depend on how many prize donations you have received. Start with the small prizes like soaps, toys and free scratch card prizes and distribute them randomly amongst the scratch cards you are printing. Make sure to have the large prizes placed on separate cards as it would not be fair if someone scratches a card and wins two prizes on the same card. You can also go to a local hobby shop and ask them what solid covering they can past on the top of the scratch card. Make sure it is secure and not see-through at all.
On the day of the fundraiser you would have a few volunteers selling the scratch cards at an affordable price of maybe R2. It should be a price that will make people buy more than one and therewith making sure that you can sell all the cards and make the profit that you had calculated. The fun will then begin with all attendees scratching furiously and claiming their prizes with a hail of applause.
