What is wind power and why have we never tried to harness it before now.
Really this question can be answered very easily. Firstly wind power is the energy created by using using wind as a tool for generating power. The turbines basically turn when it’s windy and twist a shaft that then turns a series of gears which increase its speed up to a point where energy can be collected and put in to the countries electricity supplies.
The reason why wind hasn’t been used on a large scale before is due to the highh cost of the turbines, the lack of reliability of the wind and a false dependance on what we perceived as a never ending supply of oil and gas.
These days we are becoming increasing concerned about the potential future shortages of this valuable resource and so more is being done by governments to encourage individuals and companies to use alternative forms of generating power.
