The role of termites in the world

Termites are one of the most important groups of insects in the world, both in terms of numbers, and their impact on the ecology, environment, and also economically speaking, due to their damage upon human habitation and agriculture. There are thousands of species of termites in the world, and yet many more are unsubscribed and undiscovered, since most termites live in forests and natural habitats.

Forests contain the highest number of termites, both in numbers and species diversity due to the abundance of food and suitable habitat. Yet, there are also termites that thrive in human habitation and because of the lack of competition, are able to proliferate and cause a lot of damage in human houses.

In agriculture, termites are both beneficial and destructive. Some species feast on young crops and trees, causing plenty of damage economically. But their constant tunneling in the soil is also beneficial for the growth of plants, and many plants or trees thrive because of them.
